Character Name: Samandriel
Series: Supernatural
Timeline: 8x10; after his death
Canon Resource Link: Supernatural Wiki page
Character History: As an angel, Samandriel has, of course, been alive for a very long time. Eons, even. Unfortunately, we don't have all that much background info on him, despite his presumably long life, until he comes into canon.
With the Word of God, a tablet dictated by God himself that holds every bit of information about certain supernatural beings, found and not in the hands of angels, Samandriel enters the picture to try to get it back into safety. It can be assumed that he did this of his own accord rather than being ordered into it, as it's mentioned later on that it's unlikely his absence will be noticed in Heaven due to all the disorder it's currently in. The tablet is held as an item up for auction, and his plan is to bid on it and win it in order to keep it protected.
When he spots Dean Winchester in the building, he approaches and introduces himself, his reason for doing so because he's curious about what happened to Castiel, his brother angel. Hearing that Cas is still in Purgatory, never making it out with Dean, Samandriel is shocked and honestly quite upset to hear this. He mentions that Castiel still has some supporters in Heaven, despite his mistakes, and it's clear that he's one of them. He thinks Castiel meant well, but, as he goes on to tell Dean his opinion, "too much heart was always Castiel's problem." With that, he walks away into the now open auction room.
During the auction, once the Word of God comes up as the item for sale, Samandriel is on his feet, bidding some of Heaven's assets as payment. It's mostly a bidding war between him and the demon Crowley, the king of Hell. However, once souls are offered up, he backs down, having nothing worth more than that to offer and, as he tells Dean when asked why he's not offering anything more, "we guard the souls in Heaven, we don't horse trade them." As important as the Word of God is to keep in safe hands, he's absolutely not willing to sacrifice any of those who reside in Heaven to get it back.
The tablet ends up going to Kevin Tran's mother. Kevin being a prophet of God, is the only person capable of reading the Word, and was subsequently offered up as a matching set with the tablet, so his mother offered her soul as payment to keep him safe. Once the auction is over, Samandriel approaches her and tells her earnestly that he thinks what she did was amazing, and it's clear that he appreciates what she's done to protect her son. He then offers her the assistance of angels to protect Kevin while he deciphers the tablet, because protecting the current prophet is an important job for the angels, and if they can do so along with the Word of God, then all the better. He tries to convince her that they can keep him safer than the Winchesters can, even if he agrees that they are incredible. "They're still just men," he tells her because, naturally, he believes angels are more capable than humans, even if he can appreciate humans for what they are, unlike many of his siblings. She declines the offer, however, and while Samandriel is clearly disappointed by her choice, he respects it, and instead of pushing her to agree with him, he simply nods and takes his leave.
Somewhere after this all, somehow, Crowley, the demon, manages to kidnap Samandriel. Which is quite a feat, considering he's an angel and it's generally a challenge to capture and keep them contained. He manages it, however, and has Samandriel tortured for weeks, trying to get the names of the current generation of prophets out of him, a list of names which all angels have seared into their minds. Under the pressure and the pain of it all, Samandriel cracks and gives out the names. Crowley stops the torture then, for the time being, but he continues to keep him captive, certain that there is still plenty they can get out of an angel.
And undetermined amount of time passes, most likely a few more weeks, and the torture is resumed again, with Crowley's demon assistant seeming to just be trying to get anything interesting out of Samandriel. In a moment where he's left alone, he's able to telekinetically remove the spike that's been buried in his forehead to prevent him from getting into contact with other angels, just long enough for him to get a message to Naomi, the angel currently in charge of Heaven, to let her know that he's been captured.
Shortly after this, a new form of torture is brought into play. Well, sort of new. It involves a headgear that holds a series of metal spikes in place as they're screwed into his head, which of course causes a great amount of pain to Samandriel. After a while of this though, one of the spikes twisted in just right, the angel goes into a rather trance-like state, where he begins speaking Enochian. Crowley, when brought in to see the new development, says they've gotten into his "operating system", that which is programmed into every angel. The secrets revealed by this system hack, as it were, are ones that Samandriel himself didn't even know he had in his mind, they were programmed in upon creation. This includes, unfortunately, the revelation that there is an angel tablet somewhere to go along with the demon one sold at the auction.
Thankfully, before the torture can be taken far enough to actually kill him, the Winchester brothers and Castiel come to the rescue. Sam and Dean fight off Crowley and the other demon while Cas frees Samandriel and flies him outside. With the spikes no longer in his head, Samandriel has come out of his trance and back to himself, unfortunately to the realization that he's betrayed Heaven by letting secrets slip. Even if there wasn't anything he could do to stop it, he still feels entirely at fault and he's afraid of the consequences that will befall him. This is why he tells Castiel that he can't be taken back to Heaven. Or, part of it. He's also come to the realization, with all the secrets revealed, that all of the angels are being controlled, and he tries desperately to get this across to Cas. But, just like Samandriel is warning him, Cas is under Naomi's control. The fact that Samandriel is trying to explain this to him angers her, and she orders Castiel to kill him. Unable to fight the order or the control she has over him, Castiel follows it, stabbing Samandriel with his angel blade, killing him.
Abilities/Special Powers: Angels have a long list of abilities and powers, but considering many won't be of much use in game and most leave them rather overpowered, I'll simply stick with listing the ones that will no doubt be used and tend to be the most important.
- Flight/teleportation; this is how angels prefer to get around. It's an instantaneous method of transportation, through which others may be brought along, and their arrival is generally announced by the sound of flapping wings.
- Telekinesis; the ability to move objects with one's mind. Considering he managed to remove a metal instrument that had been jammed into his skull with this ability, it's possible that Samandriel is particularly talented with it.
- Healing; angels are able to heal the wounds of humans.
- Telepathy/Angel Radio; angels are capable of reading human minds, as well as communicating with them through thought. As well, they communicate with other angels through a mental connection they all have, aka "angel radio."
- Super strength; angels are incredibly strong and highly durable. It's very difficult to truly injure them, and any bodily harm to their vessels is healed over time, the speed depending on the type of injury and how bad it is. There are very few ways in which they can actually be killed or truly injured, but it's absolutely not impossible.
- Invisibility; in order to observe, angels are able to make themselves, even in their vessels, invisible to anyone around.
Third-Person Sample: The room is completely silent. It's one of the many numerous tea rooms in the mansion, the first empty one he found. Standing at the window, staring out at the grounds, Samandriel is perfectly still. If one were to glance by in passing, they might think he's nothing but a strange new statue installation, one in the form of a gangly teenager in a fastfood uniform. This is something, he realizes by now, that wouldn't be all that out of the ordinary in a place like this.
Standing around and staring out the window are not something anyone finds particularly entertaining, and that is certainly true of this particular angel, as well. However, here in Wonderland, he's found that there's little for him to do. He's used to structure, to order, to having a job to do, but here...there's nothing. He has this thing called free time that he's never had nor particularly wanted in the past, and he has no idea what to do with it all.
But then, he supposes this might be better than the alternative, as dull as it can be. If he were still back in the reality he came from... If he were still alive there... He wouldn't be able to go back to Heaven, anyway. Wouldn't be able to go back to that structure that he's used to. He's said too much, learned too much. Here, he can...well. He's not sure what he can do.
A soft sigh, and he finally glances away from the window, back toward the doorway that leads into the halls of the mansion. Perhaps he can seek out one of his siblings? Truth be told, if it weren't for so many of them being here as well, he'd feel far more lost and uncertain of what to do with himself, but with them here, he at least has some sense of purpose. Looking out for the others that are trapped here, the humans and otherwise, is another thing that gives him purpose. That only really lasts during the events though, the ones that are life-threatening. They keep him busy for a while, so it's during the lull between these things that have him...listless.
Turning slowly in place, Samandriel begins to step away from the window and moves for the door. It's a completely foreign idea to him, but he thinks that perhaps he'll try...going for a walk. It was something humans did sometimes, right? That and...make conversation? He could try that. He could explore the mansion on foot and maybe speak with those he might pass by?
Completely unheard of, in the past, but...less of a waste of time than staring out a window, right?
First-Person Sample:
[The feed clicks on, and immediately it's clear that whoever is holding it is not particularly talented with it. The image shakes, and it's being moved around awkwardly until finally, a young face comes into view, looking at first confused yet curious, then shifting to something that's somewhat surprised when he realizes he's apparently recording himself.]
Oh-- I apologize, I wasn't aware that this would... That it would do this. [Whatever "this" is. He's not entirely sure, but he's seen these video messages on his device before, so he can only assume that he's accidentally figured out how to make one of his own.]
I'm not familiar with this sort of thing. Technology... It's not something I've ever required. [A pause, and his expression sinks slightly.] ...I suppose the case is different now. It's an important method of communication to those here, correct?
[So if anyone wants to offer technology lessons to an angel, now would be a good time for that.]
